York County Staff Spotlight - Cindy St Amand

Where did you grow up and go to school?

I was born and raised in Biddeford, Maine, and attended Biddeford Public Schools.

What prompted you to decide to seek employment with York County Maine Government?

I was hired for six weeks as a temp while an employee was out on medical leave - only to never leave.

How long have you worked for county government, and in what capacities?

As of today, the day I’m providing this information, I have been here for 36 years, 1 month and 19 days but…………  whose counting?

What is your current title?

I am the Adult Guardianship and Conservatorship Clerk at the York County Registry of Probate, and I also handle other civil and trust matters.

What did you do before joining York County Maine Government?

This is only the second job I’ve had. Prior to this, I was employed at Beachwood Motel and Salty Acres Campground in Kennebunkport, Maine, while in high school.

What do you like most about your current job?

When individuals come in knowing that they need to obtain guardianship but do not understand the process, it can be very overwhelming for them. Some of the circumstances an individual may need to get guardianship for include but are not limited to a child turning 18 who has autism and adults with dementia who need nursing care.

I take pride in my position here and feel strongly that maintaining a balance of empathy and up-to-date knowledge of state statutes and proceedings is crucial to my success in this role. I believe in helping people and feel fortunate to get to do that every day here at York County Probate.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

I am an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and love attending their games at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA. once or twice a year with my husband, Rich. I enjoy hitting the trails on my side-by-side, playing cards with friends, and spending time with my beloved cats and family. My son is an active member of the U.S. Navy, and supporting him through his military career has brought me much pride. My daughter lives locally, which allows me to spend a lot of time with her, and for that, I am very grateful.
