York County Staff Spotlight: Michaela Susbury

Where did you grow up and go to school?

I grew up in Windham, Maine and was in the 2013 graduating class at Windham High School.

What prompted you to decide to seek employment with York County government?

I had just recently received my Master’s degree in Forensic and Legal Psychology at Marymount University, and moved back to Maine. I knew I wanted to advocate in my community and that is when I saw the job listing for a victim witness advocate here in York County.

How long have you worked for county government, and in what capacities? What is your current title?

I have worked with the county government for almost two years come July. I was first hired as a victim witness advocate and have since become the Director of the Victim Witness Advocate Unit in May 2025.

What did you do before joining York County government?

After high school, I went to Thomas College in Waterville to get my Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Psychology. I then went on to Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia to get my Master’s degree in Forensic and Legal Psychology. While I was in school, I was a receptionist for many years at Riverview Physical Therapy and then an administrative assistant at Dirigo Management Company.

What do you like most about your current job?

The thing I love most about my current job is my team here in the Victim Witness Advocate Unit. I am so lucky and grateful to have such a strong and passionate group of advocates to lead. I could not do my job without them. None of us could advocate for our victims if we did not have the support of one another, so I am super thankful for each and every one of them.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

You can find me reading anything from memoirs to horror to fantasy. I love to paint, both in watercolor and acrylics. I love to play games and do puzzles with my friends and family. One of my favorite things to do is to pile into one car with my family, and drive to as many antique and thrift stores as we can; or drive to the beach and comb for sea glass and rocks! We all love to find treasures and show each other what we found.
