ALFRED, Maine – In May 1835, Ivory R. Hatch, who lived in the town of Wells, was unhappy with the result of an interaction with the town concerning a portion of his land. Wells selectmen had undertaken to lay out a road – an important decision at a time when there weren’t many roads.
