BIDDEFORD, Maine – A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but four years suspended for assaulting a 17-year-old Lebanon girl in 2021. Bohdan Dauphinais was ordered to serve three years probation when he completes his sentence on the assault charge, said York County District Attorney Kathryn Slattery in a news release issued Sept. 19. As well, Dauphinais was sentenced to a consecutive fully suspended sentence of three hundred and sixty four days with a further year of probation for his conviction charge for unlawful sexual touching.
Slattery said Dauphinais, 21, of Tuftonboro, NH, was sentenced by Judge LeaAnne Sutton on Sept. 6 following a five-day jury trial in May, where he was convicted of aggravated assault.
Dauphinais attacked his victim by striking her across the face multiple times and then strangling her with his hands, and then stuffing a shirt in her mouth, making it difficult for her to breathe, Slattery said in the news release. She noted the jury convicted him of that conduct, and he separately pled guilty and was convicted at his sentencing of sexually touching her without her consent during the attack.
“We appreciate that the jury listened carefully to this young victim’s testimony and convicted Bohdan Dauphinais of this attack,” said Slattery. “The sentence imposed recognizes the serious nature of the assault.”
