Where did you grow up and go to school?
I grew up in Arundel and attended Mildred L. Day school from Grades 1-8. For high school, we had a choice of Biddeford High or Kennebunk High, and I chose Biddeford, where my family went.
How long have you worked for county government, and in what capacities? What is your current title? What did you do before joining York County government?
I worked at the Clerk of Courts division of the Maine Judicial Branch at York County Court House in Alfred for a short time, temporarily. When the opportunity came, I could apply to the Clerk of Courts or to York County government for a full-time position. I was advised to apply for the Clerk position in the York County Registry of Deeds office. I didn’t know anything about the deeds registry or the county government, and when it came time for the walk-around interview, I could not believe there were so many people (maybe 25-30). I wasn’t sure if they were all employees or not. I thought, “What did I get myself into?” After working as a clerk for many years, I applied for and became Assistant Registrar and stayed in that position until February of this year. I then applied for a paralegal position at the York County Probate Court and was offered the position, which I took.
In all, I have worked for York County government for 36 years this past June, and over the years, I felt fortunate I could always count on my job.
What do you like most about your current job?
I am still learning the process of my new job; however, the staff are great, and they have been so instrumental in helping me learn all aspects of the job. I like to stay busy, so this position fits me well. I like to help people. There are new questions and situations every day to learn about.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do?
I have four grandchildren, and during my free time, we love to take them roller-skating, hiking, sledding & swimming. I also like to garden, and I love garden tours! Often when we get together with others if they have a beautiful garden to show me, I never need to go in their house!
