York County Staff Spotlight - Scott Gagne

Scott Gagne

Training and Response Coordinator

YCEMA (York County Emergency Management Agency)

Where did you grow up and go to school?

I grew up in Biddeford, went to Biddeford High School, New Hampshire Technical Institute, and University System of New Hampshire.

What prompted you to decide to seek employment with York County Maine Government?

I have always been interested in emergency management work and have respected and been impressed with the operations of the York County Emergency Management Agency.  I knew that this would be a job that would fit me well with my many years of experience as a first responder and fire service administrator, and I am excited to be a part of this team.

How long have you worked for county government and in what capacities? What is your current title?

I have worked for York County since August of 2023.  My role is Training and Response Coordinator for York County Emergency Management Agency.

What did you do before joining York County government?

I worked in the fire service for 31 years, retiring as Chief from the Biddeford Fire Department in June of 2023.

What do you like most about your current job?

I enjoy being able to help make a difference for and interact with the public that we serve.  I like that my job gives me the opportunity to teach and interact with the first responders in our county.  It is a job that always brings new challenges and never is consistent. I enjoy the upper-level operations that take place in our emergency operations center during emergency events that affect our county.  Additionally, I enjoy the people that I work with and the positive work environment.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my kids.  I enjoy outdoor activities and like camping, spending time on the water, or spending time on the ice during hockey season.
