Where did you grow up and go to school?
My father, a Mainer, was in the U.S. Navy. I was born in Norfolk, Virginia and attended private schools. Our family returned to Maine in 1963, and I graduated from Portland High School in 1972.
What prompted you to seek employment with York County Government?
The company I was employed with closed its doors, and a friend who works at York County Jail mentioned they were hiring a receptionist – and the rest is history.
How long have you worked at York County Government and in what capacities? What is your current title?
I will mark seven years as a receptionist at the front desk of the jail lobby in September. I process all incoming and outgoing mail, including all packages, and log all mail for residents and staff. I interact daily with attorneys coming in to visit with their clients, with representatives of the Department of Health and Human Services, and many others. I also help out where help is needed, and other duties too long to list.
What did you do before joining York County Government?
My field of employment in the past was in purchasing. I was a materials buyer for a paper company and later a raw materials buyer for a company that produced building materials.
What do you like most about your current job?
It’s different – never the same each day, which makes the hours go by quickly.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do?
We have eight dogs – that’s right, eight dogs, so our vacations are ‘stay vacations.’ We like to visit Maine beaches with the dogs and go hiking with the dogs. We breed Labrador Retrievers. I enjoy reading as well.
